The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released a new report titled, “HHS Agencies Need to Develop Procedures and Train Staff on Reporting and Addressing Political Interference.” From October 2020 to April 2022, GAO found that scientific integrity was compromised throughout the very agencies that were designated to keep Americans safe.
The government audit found that the CDC, FDA and NIH do not properly train and equip their staff to identify and report political pressure within the agencies. The government audit found that the CDC, FDA and NIH caved to political pressure throughout the covid-19 scandal, putting forth policies that were not consistent, not based in scientific data, and often violated the law. The audit found that scientific evidence and data were manipulated to craft policies that weren’t based on established scientific methods or processes. These agencies routinely suppressed findings, manipulated the science, and altered guidance to push forth an agenda.
At the CDC, FDA and NIH, scientific evidence and data were never transparently shared with the public. The government agencies quickly devolved into hysterical despots of fear and control, pumping out propaganda that was meant to terrorize and oppress the population. The data was directly influenced by political forces both inside and outside the agencies. The resulting public health guidance caused great harm throughout society.
These agencies covered up the issues with PCR tests from the start and lied about asymptomatic spread. There was never any scientific rationale to keep people locked in their homes, masked up, or to limit interactions between healthy people. Policies coming from these agencies routinely violated natural and Constitutional law, threatening personal religious beliefs and individual body autonomy rights.
The GAO report found that “political interference” was pervasive throughout the agencies. This interference undermined impartiality, non-partisanship and professional judgment. The political interference came from outside the agencies and from within, corrupting the scientific decision-making process.
The GAO report included interviews with former NIH directors, CDC directors, FDA commissioners and the former FDA Acting Commissioner. The auditors also met with a former Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, a former director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Agency, and with policy officials from the Office of Science and Technology. The audit included interviews with multiple employees of various ranks to understand the nature and scope of political pressure within the agencies.
According to GAO, every single agency trains its employees on ethics, but they all lack policies and procedures for reporting political interference and maintaining scientific integrity. The agencies do not train employees on how to protect against political interference. There are no methods for reporting potential scientific integrity policy violations. Employees were not even familiar with scientific integrity training. Managers, non-managers and the heads of the agencies were not trained to protect against political interference coming from within or outside the agencies.
The report officially finds that “neither agency had a system in place for reporting allegations of political interference.” The agencies “failed to train staff how to spot and report this [political interference].” As such, the auditors fear that research was “tampered with” across the agencies. In fact, CDC and FDA employees admitted they observed political interference within the agencies. During the year and half audit, GAO set up a confidential hotline, allowing low-level employees at the CDC, FDA and NIH to report political interference. A few employees spoke up anonymously, claiming they observed incidents of political interference.
This political interference resulted in the altercation or suppression of scientific findings that “may have resulted in the politically motivated alteration of pubic health guidance or delayed publication of COVID-19-related scientific findings.” These serious matters were not reported because potential whistleblowers were afraid that higher-ups would retaliate against them.
